His great-grandson, Kane McKenzie Haig, married Margaret Stein in 1751 and started John Haig & Co. Their daughter, Margaret, married John Jameson in 1788. They moved to Dublin to manage a distillery owned by the Stein family. Contrary to what many believe, the Jameson Irish Whiskey Company was founded in 1810. The first Jameson Distillery is now the Jameson Visitor Centre. The Haig distillery, now called Cameronbridge, started in 1824 and was the first to make grain whisky using Robert Stein’s column still method. John Haig & Co. joined the Distillers Company Limited (DCL) in 1877, which later became part of Diageo.
