- Appearance: Generally, J.P. Wiser’s whiskies display a rich amber to deep golden colour reflecting maturity and oak influence.
- Nose: Vanilla, caramel and oak make for quite an inviting nose. I get just a hint of dried fruit, apple and pear, perhaps along with some gentle, familiar spice. A light toffee and honey lie beneath the surface, giving this an inviting depth.
- Taste: sweetness and spice that are nicely integrated together. Caramel and vanilla come first, but not before a gentle rye-induced spiciness emerges from below the surface. The oak is here as well, imparting a bit of woody warmth to the overall taste without being overbearing. There’s again that light sense of dried fruit in there too.
- Finish: Medium length with warming oak and spice. Slight sweetness remains on the palate.
