Olight Prowess Dual Direction Flashlight Review

The Olight Prowess Dual Direction Flashlight is a versatile and powerful lighting tool. It features a unique design that allows users to switch between a traditional forward-facing flashlight and a 360-degree halo-style lantern. With its high brightness, magnetic base, and durable construction, the Prowess is ideal for various outdoor activities, emergencies, and everyday use.

The Olight Prowess Dual Direction Flashlight Redefines Practicality

The Olight Prowess Dual Direction Flashlight

We’ve reviewed a lot of work lights, headlamps, and flashlights over the years and had the pleasure of witnessing major improvement across all of those categories. Manufacturers are pushing the boundaries of runtime, max output, and overall usability. Now, we’re turning our attention to the Olight Prowess Dual Direction flashlight to see what it has to offer!

Pros
  • Multi-directional light
  • Lightweight aluminum construction
  • Magnetic base
  • Threaded tripod mount
Cons
  • No significant drawbacks

Olight Prowess Dual Direction Flashlight Performance

  • Max Light Output: 5000 lumens
  • Max Throw: 245 meters
  • Max Runtime: 20 days (low)

Runtime and Output
  • When talking about runtime and output, Olight’s estimates can be a little tricky at first. Due to this light’s high power output, it will automatically step down the lumens in order to manage heat and protect the battery.

  • For instance, on Turbo, the light will produce 5,000 lumens for about 3 minutes and then automatically back down to 1,200 lumens and run for an additional 140 minutes. This leads to some slightly complicated runtime estimates, but with that knowledge in mind, it gets a little easier to understand.

Olight Prowess Dual Direction Flashlight Design Notes

  • Model: Olight Prowess
  • Power Source: 5000mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery
  • Weight: 9.5 oz.
  • Length: 5.6 in.

Size and Weight

This light features an aluminum body that weighs in at 9.5 ounces and measures 5.6 inches from tip to tail. Its textured, diamond-patterned grip helps you maintain a secure hold and adds to its overall durability.

Dual Lighting Options

The Prowess stands out from the crowd in a pretty big way by featuring both forward and reverse lighting options. Now, I know what you’re probably thinking... what in the world is a reverse light?! I’m so glad you asked!

This unique flashlight utilizes a 360° halo-style lens that essentially turns this flashlight into a lantern. The magnetic base allows you to affix this light to ferrous metal surfaces, which is great for providing temporary area or reading light.

Charging

Olight equipped the Prowess with two charging methods. You can either use the magnetic USB-C charging base or one of Olight’s MCC charging cords. The charging base has a suction cup on the bottom, so it won’t easily tip over, and there’s even a 1/4-inch threaded adapter for easy tripod mounting.

Accessories

The Prowess flashlight includes a combination belt clip that comes with an adhesive bracket so you can mount it on a wall or toolbox.

Additional Features
  • IPX7 rated
  • 1-meter drop rating
  • RoHS compliant
  • CE compliant

Olight Prowess Dual Direction Flashlight Price

This light is set to hit the shelves with a price tag of $139.99. That’s right in line with what we expect from a light of this caliber, especially with a lithium-ion power source.

The Bottom Line

The Olight Prowess Flashlight boasts rugged craftsmanship and some seriously practical features. While its top-end output level is useful in short bursts, I find myself predominantly utilizing the medium and low output settings. This versatile light can be used as a handheld flashlight, desk lamp, wall sconce, or camping light, offering convenient illumination options wherever you go.
